Start with the opening you can actually use

A bin can look right for a shelf and still catch on a hinge or leave its handle out of reach. Measure the narrowest usable opening, then compare it with the bin's outside dimensions. The example below shows a simple unstacked layout and the width left over; that remainder does not promise easy access or a physical fit.
